If you thought pizza was the only recipe you could make in a wood fire oven, you are in for a big surprise!
We recently built our own wood fire oven, and wanted to see what else we could make besides pizza. While doing some research, we found a plethora of recipes to try, from appetizers, main dishes, and even desserts! Who knew there would be so many?
The wood fire oven and barbeque company Fogazzo tried out some recipes in their products and graciously added them on their website. These were tested the best, and look mouthwatering! With the detailed instructions they’ve provided, you can create these recipes too! There is a cedar planked salmon, rib eye roast in port wine glaze, and au gratin potatoes! Sounds like a 5-star meal to me!
Wood fire oven company Los Angeles Ovenworks has a section on their website completely devoted to recipes, and boy is there a lot! I had no idea could make so many different dishes in a wood fire oven. They listed appetizers, breads, meat and seafood dishes, vegetable dishes, desserts, and holiday creations. Some of those included a pear tart, wood fired lobster, bruschetta, stuffed baked tomatoes, portabello mushrooms, and apricot cheesecake. These recipes make me want to start building my own wood fire oven so I can try these out!
When looking for recipes, Pinterest is always a go-to. When searching “Wood Fire Oven Recipes”, I got plenty of pins for pizza. But it also showed other dishes, and the equipment used to make them. There were lots of dishes placed in the oven on wood planks to bring out a more woody flavor. There were tons of “baked” dishes, meaning they were in clay or cast iron bowls and skillets and placed in the oven for baking. These included baked mac and cheese and other pasta dishes, potato dishes, and warm dips. One pin showed a kabob rack you could place in the oven and the meat and vegetables would bake upright right on the stick. There was also quite a few recipes for baking breads. Oh Pinterest, where would we be without you and your brilliant ideas?
