Spring is upon us in Minnesota, sure last week we got 15″ of snow. Sure the lakes are still frozen, but there’s an upside, Mother Nature isn’t ready for you to work in your garden yet, but you’re itching to get out and about. Here are a few fun things happening around the Twin Cities and surrounding communities.
American Craft Council Art Show in St. Paul: This is one of our favorite shows of the year. It’s Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the St. Paul RiverCenter. There will be more than 200 contemporary artists’ work on display. Stop by booth #604 to see our friend Judith Kinghorn’s stunning jewelry. There are 33 clay artists, including some familiar faces from the MN Pottery Festival like Mary Joe Schmith and Kerry Brooks.
Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival 2018: Grab some popcorn and pick from any of the 250+ movies from over 70 countries that are featured this year. Don’t know which ones to see? I am Not a Witch about a young girl sent to witches camp in the Zambian desert. All You Can Eat Buddha, a delightful art-house flick. And, The Blessing, following a Navajo Nation family for five years and the challenges the family faces in their everyday lives.
The Clay Coyote 25th Annual Spring Open House: Join us in Hutchinson on Saturday, April 21 10a-5p and Sunday, April 22 noon-4p. Featuring visiting Minnesota artists:
- Patrick Callery of Clurichaun Workshop will be sharing his hand stitched leather work, he’s got clutches, wallets, key chains, document holders, journals, and more
- Tom Sack will be displaying his whimsical and creative metal sculptures and garden art, his creations are sure to get you in the mood to plant your garden!
- And we’ll be joined by Hutchinson’s Quilt Haven on Main, who will be hosting a quilt sample sale in our Studio. In 2017, Better Homes & Gardens special publication named our local quilt shop as one of the top ten in the country. Come see the beautiful quilts made by Bonny Hartung and her talented team.
The Gallery is full of new pottery, glass work, jewelry, wood, and metal art. We’re opening the kiln on Thursday so all your favorite Clay Coyote pottery will be on display as well. There are complimentary nibbles and beverages all weekend.
In honor of Earth Day weekend we’ll be giving away a free organic basil plant seedling with any purchase (until we run out).
Head over to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum: It wasn’t named best botanical garden in the US for nothing. Celebrate earth Day by having brunch and then see what’s popping up for Spring.
Como Park Zoo has their Party for the Planet event: Presented by Xcel Energy, this is a free and fun event for all ages.
