This year, I was asked one of the most special questions, “will you be my godmother?” It is one of life’s greatest honors and responsibilities. My godmother, Donna, was one of my favorite people. She was a beautiful, joyful, creative woman with an amazing sense of humor and love for life.
Many longtime Clay Coyote supporters might remember Donna and Wally Wold from the early open houses in the 90s, they were the potters behind Starry Night Gallery in Door County, Wisconsin.
In 1998, we lost Donna to cancer, and just one year later, Wally passed away from cancer as well. There are so many Wold pots in my life. I cherish them. I love drinking out of my Donna mug, it feels like we’re having a chat over a cup of coffee.
When we were remodeling the Studio this summer we found a few boxes from Donna and Wally’s studio that we inherited. In one of the boxes, were some unfinished Christmas ornaments. They’ve been packed away for almost twenty years. Donna would want them in use. She’d love knowing her stars were hanging on trees and brightening your holiday.
For the next six weeks, we’re offering an opportunity for you to come out and finish an ornament. The cost is $10 per ornament ($5 from every ornament will be donated to the American Cancer Society). This opportunity is open to all ages. Come out to make a personal present for a grandparent, or bring your girlfriends and a bottle of wine to celebrate the gift of friendship. Contact us at (320) 587-2599 or email [email protected] to book your time.
Donna and Wally’s legacy lives on in all of the kids, like clay, who they helped shape and mold. We’re their stars, shining bright.
