Oh the joys of dorm life…living in a tiny box with another person practically on top of you, sharing a communal bathroom, and oh yes, the cafeteria food. If you’re anything like me and practically every college student, you get tired really quickly of the campus food. With no access to a kitchen or to maybe just a crappy communal one, finding food other than what’s offered at the cafeteria is a little tough. Well, I am here to save the day! I have found some easy, dorm-friendly recipes with simple ingredients and hardly any time. All can be made in a mug in the microwave, because let’s be honest, the more convenient and less work, the better. And with only one dish to wash, that’s an even better plus.
The first recipe is a huge college favorite, mac and cheese. All you need to do is put dry pasta and water in a mug, microwave for about 2 minute intervals to stir, and once the pasta is at the right consistency, add in a splash of milk and your cheese and microwave for another minute to melt, and you’re ready to go!
This recipe is slightly similar, but it’s rigatoni and sauce. Here you can make a slightly fancier meal by making a rigatoni pasta pie by putting in the noodles vertically, adding sauce and cheese, and dinner is served.
Looking for something quick for breakfast? Sure you can have instant oatmeal, but that gets a little boring after awhile. Try this omelette in a mug! Crack one to two eggs in a mug, add in your favorite mix ins like ham cubes, bell peppers, and onions. Stir together and microwave. Wala, breakfast is ready!
Tired of spending money ordering pizza only to finish half the pizza? I have a remedy for you! Mug pizza. That’s right. MUG PIZZA! With just a few baking ingredients for the dough, and your choice of sauce and toppings, you have an instant single serving of pizza just for you. No more money and leftover pizza wasted. You’ll thank me.
Here is an article with tons of other great recipes including mug cakes, muffins, French toast, pancakes, meatloaf, Mexican chilaquiles, and more. Also, check out this video with 7 more dorm friendly recipes.

You’ll never have to leave your room again for a meal, and believe me that’s music to any college students’ ear!
