Educating About Pottery
Betsy and Tom recently hosted about 50 art students from the Dassel-Cokato School. Betsy showed them around our gallery where she could use the work of 160+ North American artists to emphasize the many genres that artists are working in today. We carry a lot of hot art glass in the gallery, and many people don't realize how similar the process is to that of pottery. Tom talked at length about pottery with the students crammed into the studio. From the origin of our clay, to centering and throwing, to firing, glazing, and of course marketing and putting that pot into someone's hands, Tom discussed how Clay Coyote Pottery is functional and designed for everyday use. All of the students are either taking pottery in school or will take it next year. One thing is for sure, they left here with their brains full.
